THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS OF FETUS

Model No:GIC-457

Fetal development progresses from a fertilized egg (zygote) that divides into a blastocyst, implanting in the uterus and forming an embryo, then a fetus, with major organs forming in the first trimester, rapid growth and sensory development in the second, and maturation and fat gain in the third, culminating in birth around 40 weeks. Key stages include the first trimester (weeks 1-12) for organ foundation, the second (weeks 13-26) for movement and maturation, and the third (weeks 27-40) for weight gain and final organ refinement, with the transition from embryo to fetus occurring around week 9.

    Germinal Stage (Weeks 1-2)

    • Conception: Sperm fertilizes an egg, forming a zygote.
    • Cell Division: Zygote divides rapidly as it travels to the uterus, becoming a blastocyst (a ball of cells).
    • Implantation: Blastocyst burrows into the uterine wall, with outer cells forming the placenta and inner cells becoming the embryo.

    Embryonic Stage (Weeks 3-8)

    • Rapid Differentiation:

Cells specialize to form different tissues and organs (e.g., blood, nerve, kidney cells).

    • Key Formations:

Brain, spinal cord (neural tube), heart, and other organs begin to develop.

    • Features:

Looks C-shaped with developing arm buds, eyelids, nose, and lips by week 8.

Fetal Stage (Week 9 to Birth)

    • Weeks 9-12 (First Trimester):

      • Embryo becomes a fetus; organs are mostly formed, and facial features become clearer.
      • Fingers and toes develop, bones start hardening, and the heartbeat may be audible.
    • Weeks 13-26 (Second Trimester):

      • Rapid growth, sex organs develop, and the fetus starts to move, swallow, and urinate.
      • Hearing develops, and the baby may have a layer of fine hair (lanugo).
    • Weeks 27-40 (Third Trimester):

      • Brain and lungs mature, fat stores increase, eyes open and close, and the baby gains significant weight.
      • Develops reflexes like grasping and sucking, preparing for life outside the womb.

    Key Support Systems

    • Placenta & Umbilical Cord:

Provide oxygen, nutrients, and remove waste, connecting the baby to the mother.

    • Amniotic Fluid:

Cushions the baby, helps with lung development (breathing movements), and allows for movement.
